Would this be a legal warhammer conversion?
Say if i put a fire warrior and kroot hound on the same base and made them look as if the fire warrior was holding the kroot hound on a leash like one of them guard dogs or something?
Assuming you want the model to count as both a Kroot Warrior *and* and Kroothound, then it technically defies the definition of "legal" as it isn't possible to remove one from the tabletop and not the other.
There are a number of ways to get around this. You could, for example, build a base from which each model can be removed on its own base. This is a popular way of doing Imperial Guard heavy weapons teams and has the additional benefit of providing each model with its own base that can be used to judge whether they are affected by blast or template weapons. You could also either pin the models to the base or use magnets, although you would have to rule - for fairness - that any weapon touching the base in question will affect both models.
Finally, of course, you could just do it as two models glued to one base and indicate with a dice or wound marker which - if either - model is dead. Models that have this "cool" factor will often be accepted by open-minded (i.e. most) players because it's much more interesting to play against imaginative armies like this. But, as mentioned, you will need to be sporting and generous with interpretations of the rules as they affect a larger base.
Most tournament organisers will tolerate this sort of conversion for aesthetic reasons, but the first solution (two small bases built into one large base) will be the clearest and least ambiguous solution, albeit the hardest to pull of in modelling terms.
EDIT - Reading the question properly, I see you say a *Fire* warrior and Kroot Hound, not a Kroot Warrior.
That's a much more complicated question and I'd say that, generally speaking, this sort of ambiguity should be avoided as much as possible in models intended for wargaming. The best way to do it - if you were determined - would be for the Kroothound to "count as" some specific piece of wargear that might normally be available to a Fire Warrior squad leader. I can't, off the top of my head, think of anything that would really do the job.
I left the original answer, because doing it as a Kroot Warrior and Kroothound would be much less ambiguous and just as cool.
