Warhammer 40k blood angels which tank?
im starting blood angels and im getting the battleforce and it comes with rhino so im going to use that... but which tank should i use as heavy support
i was thinking of getting a land raider but they are quite expensive i was also think maybe converting a pred into baal but then again the vindicator is wicked so which one should i get land raider vindicator or pred/baal pred(predator)
In my opinion, your choice of heavy support is heavily reliant on the following factors:
- Who are you fighting
- How many points do you have to spend in your army list
- What else do you have in your army
As you've chosen Blood Angels, you should be playing to their strengths and having a fast, jump-pack enabled army. So, chances are you're going to have a fair amount of assault-orientated troops in your force. The question is, where is your anti-tank going to come from? And, if you're facing a horde, how are you going to deal with the large number of enemies you're up against? You need to think about what role your heavy support choice is going to play in your army - is going to go for enemy vehicles, or infantry, or both? Here's my thoughts on the various options at your disposal:
Baal Predator - This is classic anti-horde. If you're up against a green tide of Orks or any troop-heavy army, this is going to help you considerably. Properly outfitted, this tank will put out a decent amount of anti-infantry fire. It can also do a decent job against lightly-armoured enemy vehicles.
Las-Predator - Equipping a Predator with all las-cannons will make a very strong anti-armour platform that will threaten any and all enemy vehicles. If you want your
Land Raider - Expensive in terms of points, but can cause your enemy a huge amount of issues. Dual twin-las can be deadly to enemy tanks. If you're only fielding one, be careful though - despite the excellent armour, there are a several ways your foes can reliably take it down. An Eldar army equipped with Brightlances, for example, are a nightmare for a Land Raider. Melta weapons are also nasty. However, for most foes you'll face, there won't be much that can take it out. The question is, are you willing to risk so many points in one vehicle? In a 1500 point or below game, I personally wouldn't risk it!
Vindicator - Another good anti-horde choice, the Demolisher Cannon can be deadly against a mob of Orks or similar. The problem is the single weapon - unlike the Predator (Baal or standard), you can't equip this vehicle with sponson weapons. One of my regular opponents often fields a Vindicator, and I can honestly say that I've never seen him have any success with it. Wouldn't recommend unless you can field a couple of them at least.
I would also consider a Devastator squad. Although, as a Chaos Space Marine player, I don't use their Chaos equivalent very often, my Space Marine / Blood Angels opponent has had a lot of success with his Dev squad.
So, my personal opinion - if you're up against a foe with lots of troops, go for a Baal Predator. If you need anti-armour, pick a Las-Predator. Try and field them in pairs, rather than solo - you'll have a lot more success that way. A single tank can attract a lot of enemy fire, so it's always recommended to spread things out a bit.
I would visit the Bolter & Chainsword website, and have a look at how the Blood Angels players there are picking their heavy support choices. There are plenty of BA army lists there for you to look at, as well as battle reports to see how your fellow players are using the forces at their disposal.
Hope this has helped to answer your question. Happy gaming!
